iPhone 4 on Verizon Wireless

As you may know, the iPhone 4 is now available on Verizon Wireless. Cost for the device is $199 for 16GB and $299 for 32GB for new customers or customers that are eligible to upgrade. If you are considering the iPhone 4 on Verizon, please note the following:

  • The iPhone 4 on Verizon works on their cdma network. This means when someone is on a call, they will not be able to use any application requiring network connectivity, specifically the internet.
  • The device will NOT be a world phone and will have very limited international capability. A list of countries where the Verizon iPhone 4 works can be found here: http://b2b.vzw.com/international/Roaming/rates_coverage.html
  • Network performance is an unknown and will be dependent on volume of devices activated.
  • Battery life is also unknown but cdma technology typically results in a poorer battery life than gsm. We address this with a second battery and dual battery charger for most devices. That is not an option for the iPhone as the battery is sealed and not swappable by consumers (without voiding the warranty).
  • Customers who use their upgrade eligibility now will not be eligible for upgrade again for 2 years. The expected iPhone 5 (most likely available in December 2011 for Verizon Wireless customers) would cost these customers $649 or $749.
