What is Duo and why is it required
What is Duo?
Duo Multi-Factor Authentication is a security solution that adds an extra layer of protection to Caltech accounts by requiring two forms of identification to verify user identity. Multi-Factor Authentication helps safeguard sensitive information and prevents unauthorized access, even if passwords are compromised. After entering your username and password, Duo prompts you to verify your identity through one of several authentication methods.
Why is Duo required?
Passwords alone are no longer effective means of securing access to computer systems and services. Passwords can be weak, reused, compromised in breaches, or stolen in phishing attacks. Multi-factor authenticaiton helps keeps account secure, even when passwords are not. It is an important element in the protection of sensitive information including personal, educational, financial, medical, and research data at Caltech and is increasingly required to comply with policies and regulations.
