Long Distance Calls
The campus telephone system requires a code to make long distance calls from campus extensions to phone area codes outside the Los Angeles area. Long distance calls are then billed to a department or student account.
Using a Code to Call Long Distance
- All domestic area codes:
- Dial 9 + 1 + area code + phone number.
- Wait for a dial tone.
- Enter your six-digit authorization code.
- International calls:
- Dial 9 + 011 + country code/city code + phone number + # sign.
- Wait for dial tone.
- Enter your six-digit authorization code.
Request a Code for Long Distance Calls
For Students
If you are an Undergraduate or Graduate student, you can obtain a code that will enable you to use the campus telephone system for long distance calling, and have the calling costs charged to your personal account. To do so, please bring your UID to Room 111 in the IMSS building (263 S. Chester Ave), between 8am and 5pm.
For Faculty, Staff, and Post Docs
If you are a Faculty, Staff or Post Doc and wish to obtain a code for placing long distance calls, please call x5995. Requests for long distance codes may also be made at Caltech Help Ticket System. (Request Type: IMSS > Phones > Long Distance Codes)
