Finding Your Wireless MAC Address

Media access control address (MAC address) details

  • A MAC address contains 12 characters, with digits from 0 to 9, and letters from A to F.
  • The letters may be either upper or lower case. Sometimes each pair of characters is separated by a colon, dash or a space. Sometimes there is no space at all.
  • For an external wireless card, check the card to see if the MAC address is recorded on a label.
  • If your computer has an internal wireless card, you'll have to use the operating system to find the MAC address.

Instructions

Windows 7, 8, and 10

  1. Click on the Windows Logo in the bottom left corner.
  2. In the search box, type cmd and press enter
  3. In the command prompt, type getmac and press enter/return.
  4. The Physical Address will be your MAC address.

Mac OSX (10.9.x and above)

  1. Click on the Apple Menu, and choose the System Preferences menu item.
  2. Click on Network.
  3. Click on Wi-Fi.
  4. Click the Advanced button.
  5. Find the Wi-Fi Address, this is your wireless MAC address.

Linux

  1. In a terminal window type ifconfig and return.
  2. You'll see a list of interfaces. Your wireless interface will likely be named wlan0 or wifi0. The wireless MAC address will be in the field labeled HWaddr.
  3. You can also use iwconfig to find your wireless MAC address if you have it installed.

iPhone

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Select "General"
  3. Select "About"
  4. The MAC address is listed as Wi-Fi address.

Android

  1. Press the Menu key and select Settings.
  2. Select Wireless & networks or About Device.
  3. Select Wi-Fi Settings or Hardware Info.
  4. Press the Menu key again and choose Advanced. Your device's wireless adapter's MAC address should be visible here.

Apple TV

  1. On the Apple TV main menu, select Settings
  2. In the Settings Menu, select About
  3. The Apple TV's MAC Address will be listed as either the Wireless ID or Ethernet ID​

Game console or Entertainment device

The MAC address is often printed on a label attached to the device, or printed on the box it came in. Otherwise, you can check the manual or find this information in the Settings or Preferences menus.
